ive already arrived wuxi tonite from suzhou.
when i got home i found the water flowing from taps were odoriferous.
sooo serious ~~~
the worst smell during my 22 years in Wuxi. Mad Mad

It is said the Tai lake has been polluted awfully.
How can we live with this kind of water and how about any foreigners?
How can we use this kind of water to shower, wash, even drinking?

as for a local girl,i cannot stand the pollution and shame about the TAIHUMINGZHU designation... Exclamation

Yes! We have noticed how stinky and sulfurous-smelling the water was at our place as well (coming out of the tap, shower....). What's going on?

It was actually the topic of conversation when I arrived here in the office.
I smelled something in the bathroom and ignored it and just though it was just the smell of the bathroom not being cleaned up for days. hehe. I even took a bath awhile ago and last night. But I still smell good today! hehe.

Anybody knows, a clear explanation on the whole water thing? Root cause, solutions, and how it is going to last?

Thanks!

Hi All,

The Taihu is polluted since years.
I have a book with many drawings inside, where all pollution is mentioned. Each kind and even the concentration.

The Taihu is not deep, unable to treat itself like other lakes.

The Taihu has no outlets, just inlets.

The government looks since years for proper solutions, but any solution costs a lot. China don't invest much money in Environmental Protection. Soon whole China is polluted, not only the water. There is also serious ait pollution and soil pollution.

The waterplants are not state of art. As long here is no change you have to bear smelly water.

There are some solutions for private housholds to remove the smell, but they are not cheap and always need maintenance. The things what cause the smell are not dangerous. Soon they will put more Chlorine into the water then the smell will go.

Just don't drink it. Close your mouth during shower (don't sing).

Regards T_G

....but building a f...ing subway.....

For this money they shall clean up the mess and install a drainage system, that would help many more people. Ever been at new district at the holiday plaza and taking a deep breath? Try it and enjoy it.

And while ranting, get rid of all this polluting buses and motor bikes, scooters and what the hell is driving around.

我爱无锡.....

Other cities in China have done it and its getting better.

Cheers/Genius

If it is not only the problem of Wuxi but the whole Tailake, why the water in Suzhou still well? We all know Suzhou is the same using Tailake water.

It is said that the situation should still be last for a few days.It means I will stay my face/body uncleaned for these days?! Mad Evil or Very Mad Im not good at stop breathing while shower.

The government said the water is still safe to drink, but the precondition is that u re able to persuade urself to drink the smelly water or pretend to be nothing changed in the water.

Im threatened by the water and thinking about escaping the dead place to Suzhou will be better.
O0.- .-

then,if someone said the government don't have enough money to save and protect the water.it is not the truth.Tailake is China's second biggest freshwater lake, while the ecological diversity has been damaged seriously. We can see factories/villas all around the lake, because it benefit the government/individuals directly. But can we see a wetland there? I know the only one - Suzhou wetland beside such a big lake.

As we see,the city is full of repeated construction and waste much money in the construction.why they don't have the ability to protect/change the water quality?

Razz Razz Razz it seems that im writing an essay with indignation.but its useless.bad water made me bad mood. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Hopefully you did not use this water:

Imported Evian water is tainted by bacteria
By Jin Jing 2007-5-30

MORE than 118 tons of imported Evian-branded mineral water failed to meet China's food safety standards, according to national quality supervisors.

Evian bottled water imported on February 18 contained 100 times more bacteria than China allows, according to the Website of the National Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine yesterday.

It's the largest amount of imported high-end mineral water to fall foul of Chinese safety laws.

All the bottles were destroyed or returned to Europe before being sold in the city.

Danone Imported Waters (Asia) Co Ltd, an affiliate to Groupe Danone SA, the world's leading food and beverage maker, said the tainted Evian was brought in by a former importer, and the company is investigating. An official statement will be released later.

"I am afraid it will have a negative impact on our brand image," said an official surnamed Gu from Danone's logistics department, which is in charge of the probe.

"Different safety standards between the European Union and China may be part of the reason, but we will make sure all products available on the market are safe."

Ma Youqi, secretary general of Guangdong Provincial Bottled Water Association, said the water could have been contaminated at source, while being bottled in factories or transported, according to Information Times.

Industry observers are calling for tighter rules to better monitor high-end imported water, which usually sells for 10 times the price of local brands such as Wahaha and Nongfu Shanquan.

Ninety percent of China's 9.71 million liters of imported bottled water comes from European Union countries, according to media reports, citing Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

About 15 out of 128 batches of imported mineral water were regarded as low-quality products, including Evian and Provence brands.

Cheers or better not/Genius

Contaminated chlorine smell gives it away!!!!

Any purifying pacility need to be regenerated in time. One time a week at least. Otherwise, it not only can work but also become a toxic resource. Take care!
